As a makeup artist or hairstylist, your most important marketing tool is your portfolio. It shows potential clients what you are capable of, the style of work you do, and gives them a visual idea of what it would be like to do business with you. In this digital age, everything happens quickly, potential clients don’t have time to set up meetings to look at your physical portfolio, and they don’t want to wait while you send it in the mail. Those days are GONE! The 21st century version of a portfolio is a website.
Having a website is super important – it shows your potential clients that you are a legitimate business. But your makeup website needs to be more than just your online portfolio. It needs to be your digital sales tool. The job of your website is to attract your ideal client, let them know who you are, what you do, and most importantly, what you can do for, or how you can help, that particular potential client who is looking at your website.
So it stands to reason that your site needs to get seen. There are many ways that potential clients will find your website, they might come from a referral, they might click a link on your social media, but probably the main way is through a search engine search, or, as it is commonly known, a “google search”. Google is one of several search engines, and by far the biggest. Having your site rank well on google should be something you are working towards. Because, you can be the best makeup artist with the most beautiful website, but if nobody sees it, what’s the point?
I’ve been interested in the topic of Search Engine Optimisation for quite a while now, but it’s always gone into the “too-hard” basket. So I was super keen to have this chat with Danielle Murrihy, a former hair & makeup artist turned SEO expert, to hear what she had to say about how we can improve our make up website’s ranking on google.
Makeup Artist websites – SEO Tips
Danielle Murrihy originally trained as a hairdresser in 1988 and since 2000 has worked as a hair & makeup artist for photo studios, weddings, commercial and TV, in both Melbourne and Sydney Australia.
She ran a series of popular long hair styling workshops until she put the brushes down in 2017. Since then she has run several online businesses, and last year, started her own SEO agency.
In this interview, Danielle shares about the importance of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and gives us some simple tips on how you can best get your website ranking on google. A better ranking website = more enquiries and bookings!
Danielle loves to help hair and makeup artists make the most of their websites. She helps artists to also use their websites instead of just relying upon social media for work inquiries.
